You Can't Fake That!

Is anyone else getting tired of the mass produced madness everywhere? Anymore, it feels like the matrix, or the that song about ticky tacky. Computerized and homogenized. Which is a big word for "made the same." But there actually are some things that just can't be reproduced by machines! And I find it encouraging. So I did some research, so you don't have to. And what I found was fascinating. So, take a seat, get ready, and let's get into it!

First up? Basketry. You might not believe it, but machines can't weave! You've probably been in a restaurant and ordered something like a hot dog that they bring you in a little red plastic basket -tray thing. That's because, so far, molded plastic is the closest artificial thing. Oddly enough, humans love the real stuff. Which is why they try so hard. But there's no mechanical hand that can balance the fine touch needed to slip strips between each other, and the strength to bring them up tightly.

Next, it's fairly similar, but the difference is key. It's another kind of weave. But machines can't crochet. Now, they can knit, and a lot of people think that's the same. But, for example, you can't get into the same kind of lace. Sure, there's machine made stuff out there. But it's repetitive. It's got simple patterns of designs that all look the same. However,  with crochet, you can get figural. By that I mean, things like portraits and paintings, made of tiny knots in teensy string. Which is a beautiful thing.

And finally, bear with me on this, but I'm going to say that machines can't make computer screens. Okay, maybe that's exaggerating. But seriously. With all the A.I. nonsense, we still need humans, to some degree, to make the things. Whether we construct the factory, or work on the code writing, they need us. I believe that God decreed human dignity, as a permanent thing. Which means, until trumpet sounds, They'll keep needing us. And after that, well, we'll be occupied with better things. (Quick note: Machines can't repair themselves either.)

I hope that blessed you. If so, please consider buying me a cup of coffee, to keep me going.
