Resitance isn't Futile
If you grew up in the 80's or 90's, you probably know the Borg catch-phrase. But these days, with soft circuits and stem cells, science fantasy is becoming a reality. Especially with the Transhumanist movement. "What's that?" You may ask, with honest curiosity. Well, never fear, dear readers! Because I have once again done considerable research,* so that you don't have to. Buckle up, becase this is rather strange, but true. Now, seeing as the future is around the corner, let's get into it!
First off, to answer that earlier question: Transhumanism is the position that human beings should be permitted to use technology to modify and enhance human cognition and bodily functions, expanding abilities and capacities beyond current biological constraints.** Basically, God didn't do stuff, but we can!
Now, this might sound innocent. Like, pacemakers and prosthetic limbs, for times of actual need. Instead, specultion has talked about giving humans wings, or implanting body armor, like in the movies.*** Or Cognitive enhancement, the use of drugs, devices, or other methods to improve cognitive abilities beyond normal levels.**** It's long been fictional, from Space 1999 to Star Trek and Doctor Who.
So, right away, this looks to me like two problems (And probably more.) But just on the surface level, it shows a kind of arrogance, trusting in technology to a fanatical degree. But at the same time, and for whatever reason, a lack of faith. Maybe these people never had much, but "The purpose of mankind is to love God and enjoy Him forever," according to the council of Trent.
So, how should the faithful take in all this? And also, what should we do about it? Well, in Matthew 6:33, Jesus references Psalms, when He said, " Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Which is a really good place to start. We're also told to discern the spirits, and be wise as serpents. So, practically speaking, I would start shopping in a way that doesn't fund this research, and vote my convictions to limit it. But most of all, trust that "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1:6.
I hope that blessed you. For a little more, check out voiceintha on blogspot, facebook, X, and instagram Thanks!
