To br fair, these were never really classified. But still, most folks have never heard of them all the same. You probsbly know Sherlock Holmes, maybe Hercule Poirot. But these are several less celebrated super sleuths. Which I've researched, so y'all don't have to. So grab your magnifying glass and your fingerprinting powder, and let's get into it!

1.Philo Vance

Starting off kind of simple. Without a lot of clever gimmicks or backstory, Philo Vance is a private investigator in Manhattan, at the turn of the 19th-20th century. While he has a uniue attention to detail, the main thing setting him apart is the phsychological method seperating him from his police colleagues. A good movieto start wih is the Kennel Club Mystery, available on Kanopy and AmazonPrime.

2.Have gun, Will travel

The heroe's only name is Paladin. In case you don't play D&D, a paladin is a warrior, like a knight, devoted to a higher power. Which is why this Western show's symbol is a knight from chess. The character solves some mysteries, though not always murder. But he always fights for those who need defended. At last check, episodes were available on Youtube and Google Video.

3. Paul Temple

A similar figure to Philo, but this one started later, as radio plays. He's also given more depth through characters, like Ricky (His butler) and Steve (His  wife.) A fan of phsychology, but his secret weapon would seem to be his wallet. Still, this allows him to travel, fighting crime around the world. The first film is Send for Paul Temple, available on Kanopy or Youtube.

4. Yancy Derringer

If Paladin was a Western, than Yancy owns the genre of Old Easterns. Working as an agent of the Govenor of New Orleans in the aftermath of the Civil War, focusing on graft and counterfeiting. So Yancy solves murders and robberies, and defending the America of today. Available on Amazon Prime and Kanopy.

5. Gracie Allen

Before she met George Burns, and long before they made comedy history, Gracie had a career as an actress. One she made was a mystery film, where her well meaning quirkiness added levity to the grim subect of murder. She assisted Philo Vance, but she got the headlining role. It's avalableon the Internet Movie Archive, or to download.

I hope that blessed you. If so, please consider buying me a cup of coffee, to keep me going.
