The Science of Sure Things
Human’s have always wanted to see the future. horroscopes, crystal balls, tarot cards. But those don’t actually work. Instead, God will sometimes give prophets, but most times, as Christ said, “You can discern the clouds, and the seasons.” He lets us do the math for most things. Specifically, Statistical Analysis. Not something most people bother with. Fortunately, I do! Today, I’ll talk a bit about that, and a bit about scripture. Playing them off each other, so we’ll know how to anticipate stuff. If that sounds good, let’s get into it!
To start with, Proverbs 16:33 says “The dice is cast with the hand, but how it falls belongs to the Lord.” So, we can do a lot to figure stuff out, but GOD has the final say. Still, we’re gonna look at ways He gives to do that first thing. Like, game theory says that if you do it right, you can win every game every time. And while that’s never actually happened, it does mean that you can learn from mistakes and play better next time.
A couple examples I like to make are weather forecasts, or horse racing. While not a perfect science, studying what happenned last time can give us a pretty good idea about next time. And we do that a lot, from fantasy football to election predictions. God has given us so very much access to what’s ahead.
Of course as we just read in Proverbs, GOD has the last word. Sometimes, He even gives prophetic revelations, though today, those are more personal than public. But He isn’t cruel or witholding. He does, however, reward effort, being hard working Himself. Which is why He said, “seek, and ye shall find.”
So, obviously, GOD does extraordinary things, like sending His Christ. But far more common are ordinary, everyday things. Like politics, or weather. And largely, these can be predicted by study. It might not be perfect, but in a big way, His grace lets us see the future!
I hope that blessed you. If so, please consider buying a subscription.
