The Lonely Road
Since He first called to Peter and Andrew, followers of Christ have long felt the need to be with Him, whatever else they had to leave. Whether we're talking Francis of Assisi, or Billy Graham, every understanding of the faith tends to compel us that we lay down our lives and pick up our cross. But how can I do that, with a spouse, kids, and a job? While Paul said it's good to stay single, Hebrews13:21 says that He'll equip you with everything to do His will. And I've researched some options, so you don't have to. So tighten your straps, buckle your shoes, and let's get into it!
Right now, I'm single. And who knows? I might not be next week. But I digress. The point I'm trying to make is that, right now, I'm doing that cross-carrying thing. Trusting that He'll give me what I need. Maybe I'll turn around, be blessed, and go viral with Wilderness Voice Ministries. Or maybe, I'll find myself engaged to be wed. In which case, He'll show me the right career. But in every season, I strive become what He tells me to be.
Earlier, I talked about Francis of Assisi. And Andrew. But more importantly, I wanna discuss Peter. And Billy Graham for that matter. They were both married. And I'm mentioning it because God won't call you to be covenanted to a human, and then do some other thing. While we don't know exactly how He blessed Peter's family, we do know He took care of the disciple's mother in law. And there are lots of stories about Ruth Bell Graham's ministry. She and Billy did many things jointly. As in Hebrews, He'll constantly equip you with everything you need.
And lastly, whatever status you might be. You can do a certain, Christ inspired thing. Many times in the Bible, "Christ withdrew to a place apart." Yes, I'm broadly paraphrasing various verses, but you get the idea. Because, you might not have a desert where you can go fast. But every girlfried I've had left town, for work or something a few days. And your partner might leave you the same way. Or maybe you got a prayer closet? If nothing else, you can go to the yard or the bathroom, and spend 10-15 minutes alone in prayer. It might take different shapes. And it might not be very much some days. But the call we recieve is still "Come, follow me."
I hope that blessed you. If so, please consider buying me a cup of coffee, to keep me going.
