The Humility of Fancy Dress

I know, I know, it sounds like a contradiction in terms. But no. Its a paradox. In case I haven't gotten into those yet,  they're when things appear to be opposites by human logic, but God has them make each other better. Like hot chocolate on a snowy day. I love such things, so I did some research.  Which means you don't have to.  This will be just one example I'm passionate about. But if you're curious, let's get into it!

So, back to the title. How is wearing silk ties and cuff links, or ball gowns and big hair particularly humble? Well, on the face of the matter, it's not. Really, it's more about respect.

You see, when a person goes to church on Sunday (or anytime.) we're going into the presence of God. Yeah, He's everywhere, but church is the house where He chooses to concentrate His presence.

Just like you'd dress nice to meet the president, or foreign royalty, it's the same idea. Except, we can't find anything even close to what the maker of the universe deserves. And the idea of trying our best is where humility comes in. If all you have is rags, you wear the nicest rags you can get ahold of.

Which is another amazing thing about grace. He allows every sinner the opportunity to be made whole. Still, as a way to say how much we appreciate that, we would do well to dress as respectfully as we can. Which means, not sweat pants and t-shirts unless that's the best you got. Instead, make your outfit an act of praise to God.

I hope that blessed you. If so, please consider buying me a cup of coffee, to keep me going.
