The Death of Death

This is exactly what it sounds like. See,  Revelation 20:14 talks about death and hell being cast into the lake of fire. But what does that actually mean? Well, it just happens, I've researched this a bit, so you don't have to.  There's two common opinions, and while I used to hold the latter, what's really in there is pretty clear. So unless you need a snack,  let's get into it!

The first version is that this means those realities are dissolved, along with anyone bound up in them. Put simply,  it means anyone who's already died and gone to hell ceases to exist or be tortured for eternity. Pretty brutal.

The second one says that God is gracious enough to forgive, and He ended death on the third day. So, hell will end, and everyone there would relocate to Heaven.  But while God's forgiveness is perfect, 20:15 says that anyone not in the book of life will also be thrown into the lake of fire. If we believe that means destruction- just as death and hell will be no more, it sounds like a lot of people will dissapear along with them.

I wanted to give you a more upbeat, positive answer. About how even death will die,  and everyone you love will make it to Heaven But I have to tell you what it actually says. Easy as it might be, I just can't bring myself to cut corners with God's own word.

Honestly, I struggled that last paragraph. I've struggled with a lot of my faith. Like the disciples, I thought "This is a hard saying. Who can understand?" But I don't understand why the world turns, or my heart beats. Some things just are, and we can trust that He'll use them for our good.

I hope that blessed you. If so, please consider buying a subscription.
