The Cure for Anxiety

If you've met me, you know, I struggle with Anxiety. And it appears that so do almost a quarter of the grown ups in America.* Those are crazy numbers, for a silent killer. But don't worry about it! I've been researching a cure, so you don't have to. The solution I found has been applied for thousands of years, to great effect. So if that sounds good, let's get into it!

First off, I wanna define "Anxiety." Really, there's Fear, Anxiety, and Concern. Those first two are really kinda pointless, but we face them all the time. Fear is a body's response to danger. It kicks in, so we'll get out (Of Dodge.) Anxiety is where we're focusing. But it's that little nagging voice, saying you need or should be more. And concern is rationally thinking about how we can handle bad stuff.

Building off of that, John says "Perfect love casts out fear."** Back then, that meant Anxiety too. But how do we actually make that work? Well, a good start is by recognizing what's fear, as opposed to what's just practical sense. Once we take care of that, we have quite a bit less to worry about, because everything in the first category is just silly.

As for the thousands of years thing, I wasn't kidding. Jesus said "Take no thought for the troubles of tomorrow. Each day has enough trouble unto  itself."*** Now, back when He said that, there weren't , designer fashion, or white picket fences, or a lot of our status symbols (The phrase didn't exist yet.) But the point is still, don't even stress about practical things, because every day, He gives just what we need.

But if you're still concerned, that's okay. He made us that way. But it's important, we can't allow the stress to control us. Because hard times remind us what we believe, and that makes us stronger, because as we do believe, that becomes hope. And having hope will get us through those things.

"But how do you know that," you ask. "You said you struggle too!" Well yeah, I do. But much like Paul, folks, I'm convinced "That all things work together for good for those who love God."**** Notice: That doesn't mean all things are good. But in the Lord's infinite wisdom, even horrendous things can result in decades of community, and strength, and efforts towards world peace. Showing how God can make stuff good, from the very worst of things. And those line up to bless them that believe.
