Spaced Out Cinema

As folks probably know, the space shuttle Artemis II is currently en-route to our moon. So, I've decided to make a list of five space movies. As usual, these aren't sponsored reviews. But I've seen them all, which is, I've done the research, so you don't have to. And if that sounds good, strap in, brace for liftoff, and let's get into it!

1. Apollo 13

Starring Tom Hanks, this film retells (Rather acurately) our second attempt at a moon landing. Readers may recall the crisis, though, when the craft malfunctioned after takeoff. It chronicles the daring in-flight rescue that brought our boys home. Available through Sony Pictures, Youtube, and Amazon Prime.

2. Hidden Figures

Released later, but set earlier, this one records how calculators used to be a human job. And in the case of America's space program, these jobs were ultimately held by a series of cleaning ladies, found to be exceptionally gifted. You can find it through Universal Pictures, Youtube, or Kanopy.

3. Space Camp

A bit more make believe, this movie is still a fairly scientific bit of fun.  Summer camp at NASA takes on an exiting turn when a class of teenagers on board a simulation accidentally get launched into space! Only teamwork and perserverance give any hope of returning home. Available on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Youtube.

4. Starman

Probably the most fantastic title on this list, it's about an actual extra-terredtrial who crash landed on this planet. He encunters a widow, an recruites her to help him get acrosd the country. Along the way, they find that while both are alone, each can be what the other needs. You can find it on Tubi, Youtube, or Apple T.V.

5. The Martian

This one's a beautiful blend of science and imagination. In the near future, an expedition sets out to explore Mars. But a freak wind storm forces them to abandon an engineer, thought to be dead. But when he's detected Earth-side, the race is on to rescue him. Equally entertaining, though, are his efforts to survive as a castaway in space. Just a great time. Available on Fandango, Youtube, or Amazon Prime.

I hope that blessed you. If so, please consider buying me a cup of coffee, to keep me going.
