Looking Good!

According to Genesis 1, humans were made in God's image. So, obviously, we're supposed to look good, right? But it's tricky, because we wanna look good, not just for ourselves, but for Him too. Which is where stewardship comes in. I might explore that more later, but for now, I researched a few ways that relates to fashion, since it might help you. Before you leave, I'll talk about some unexpected things. So roll up your sleeves, and let's get into it!

Wabi-sabi is a Japanese philosophical and aesthetic concept that embraces the beauty of imperfection and the transience of life.* But what I'm talking about today is how it impacts mending. Yeah, it's a bhuddist thing, but way before Bhudda was born, David of Isreal talked about how "All things wither like grass." (Psalm 37:2) And also, how precious God's gifts are. So the idea here is to repair things in a way that keeps them useful, but also celebrates the repair. Like a patch that makes your jeans more awesome, both functionally and fashionably.

Mpinga is a Bantu (African) word, meaning warrior. But recently, it's been used in a dfferent context: Fighting off unwanted, cast off clothing. In recent years, both Biden and Trump (So, Democrats and Republicans) have imposed tariffs on Riwanda for not accepting clothing that could "Benifit their economy."** Oddly enough, they don't want what we don't want. Which brings us back to stewardship. As Christians, we should support both our economy and others by not coveting, just like the tenth commandment, and instead, repairing and re-using what we have. And with efforts like wabi-sabi and grunge, it can be better than new stuff anyway.

While the Bible's main teachings on modesty are in 1 Timothy,*** Other places, like Genisis show it's mportance. But looking at the tenth commandment again, modesty is more than not showing skin. It's also not dressing to keep up with the Joneses, so to speak. A way of saying, enough is plenty, and not striving for more. And as we learn to fix the good Lord's gifts, we'll find that what He provides is always just right.
