Impossible Expectations
The idea for this one comes from Isaiah 1:17. And I'll share that in a minute. But I've been doing some research, and some thinking, so you can too. That verse is like a fleshed-out version of Jesus' simplified law in Matthew. Yeah, Isaiah came first, but this is what God's always wanted. So what if people actually did this? Well, these are my thoughts on that. And now, sit tight, buckle up, and let's get into it!
Love those who hate you, give to those who persecute you, care for the oppressed and fatherless. Do good and hate evil. (Isaiah 1:17)
If we really follow Christ's example, we love even our enemies. Eye for an eye feels natural and vindicating. But true love is synonymous with sacrifice. And like I said, that's impossible for us to do. But the beauty of the covenant is that God gives us His abilities, even this.
Carrying on with this, we're called to speak life and love into being, all the time. Because we take after our Father, and do what He does. Again, this is an impossible standard. But the Spirit guides and helps us. And as we press in, we'll recieve incomparable. blessings "Pressed down, shaken together, and overflowing." (Luke 6:38)
Quite simply, on that note, people of God living in the Spirit, act in love at all times. Which sounds hard, but remember! God Himself is helping us. And love never fails. John says God is love. So if we truly take Him at His word, we can do all things, through Christ who strengthens us. Including the impossible.
I hope that blessed you. If so, please consider buying me a cup of coffee, to keep me going.
