I'm Like, Soo Relaaxed
The Buddhists have this saying..."Knock on the sky, and listen to the sound." It seems crazy, but the point is to first be centered enough to know that the sky is actually just above you, and then to notice even what's going on right there. A state of total calm, anxiety free. I bring this up because Jesus came up with it first. An idea I've researched so that you don't have to. Now, don't panic. Let's just get into it!
Perhaps one of the best known passages is in Matthew 7, Christ's sermon on anxiety. But while people know the stuff about clothes and height. But nobody seems aware that the Jews at that time were political refugees, living under Roman rule. So Jesus is speaking to very real concerns about food, clothing, and shelter. None of which were gauranteed. The closing about adding a cubit was to drive it all home.
Another popular verse is Psalm 46:10. "Be still and know that I am God." But I think it's well-known because it speaks to our main struggles as humans. When we have a problem, the last thing we want is to sit still. Not only are we taught from childhood to solve problems, it can be difficult for anyone to ask for help. But if we slow down, and look up, we'll remember where our help comes from.
And lastly, my favorite, if under celebrated passage is Ecclisiastes 12:13-14. It's extensive, but basically, to paraphrase, it says to obey God as best you can and trust Him for everything else. It might be the oldest of these. But even hundreds of years before Christ, it explained once and for all time that scripture has all the answers and solutions, and about the other stuff? Well, it can put you in touch with someone. This might upset big pharma, but the cure for all anxiety and depression is simply remembering that Jesus loves you.
I hope that blessed you. If so, please consider buying me a cup of coffee, to keep me going.
