R.I.P. Superman

2 min read

In 1992* D.C. Comics killed off Superman. But he came back, to save the day. Before that, there was king Arthur, and before that, Beowulf. People still look for the return of those last two, but they're just stories. So why is humanity bent on stories of heroes who die before coming back to fix things? It might be obvious, but I've still done some research, which you won't have to. And if you wanna find out what I've found, lets get into it!

The first versions were heroes that were half gods. Both out of wedlock. That is, Gilgamesh and Heracles (Later, Hercules) were the offspring of a culture's supreme god [Babylon and Greece, respectively] decieving and fooling around with a mortal woman. Because, I mean, those mortal women can be hot.

In 1929** C.S. Lewis said that every society has a hunger for God in their hearts. These talks were compiled as a book in 1958, but the hunger persisted. The 30's saw the first volume of Superman, before his "death" in 92. And in 1997, Disney released a watered-down version of Hercules.

I'll just mention Luke Skywalker and Harry Potter, to show how humans crave a savior who can't die. The thing is, in A.D. 33*** The actual God man died and rose again. Only, unlike the othermnythical mothers, Mary wasn't forced or decieved. And there's more to unpack with that, but the point is, Jesus' birth, death, and ressurection were all freely chosen, to actually save the world. And if you'll accept that, He'll save you too.

I hope that blessed you. For a little more, check out voiceintha on blogspot, facebook, X, and instagram       Thanks!
