Bad Religion
It's popular to say, Christianity is a relationship, not a religion. And while there are problems with both terms, anybody who's ever dated knows it's bad when things become a routine performance. I've researched some ways this is true of Christianity. And while I don't dare to define the faith, you might find this interesting. So, if everyone will find their seats, let's get into it!
Anyone who thinks human rules are the supreme authority is terribly mistaken.Rather, Christ has all power in heaven and earth. (Matthew 28:18) Because, quite frankly, He is God. Admittedly, that can be confusing. But if we get lost in our showy stuff, we might overlook the point of worshipping the maker of everything, who cared enough to adopt us.
That thinking really distorts our relationship, even confusing our image. We were made in His image, but only just a little higher than animals. But when we worship some televangelist or any other human, we exalt them too much. And that's dangerous, for a created thing to think it's more powerful than the God who created it.
Most importantly, if it wasn't clear already, that stuff ignores the sovereignty of Jesus. Sovereignty means the absolute authorty of a government to make laws. But the Author and Perfector of our faith even sets up earthly governments, giving them authority. And really, if the only begotten Son of God isn't more important than tiny humans, then what are we even doing here?
I hope that blessed you. If so, please consider buying me a cup of coffee, to keep me going.
