All Caught Up
To be caught up in the Spirit means being emotionally and mentally drawn towards Him. It happened a lot in scripture, but these days it more often refers to worship. Still, "worship" can mean a lot of things. What's it supposed be, though? Well, once again, I've done some research, so y'all don't have to. Now, if that sounds captivating, fascinating, or just a little interesting, then let's get into it!
As I kind of suggested, I plan to share about a few different styles of worship. But I'll start with the most common, singing spiritual songs.(Prayer is great, but I think of it as conversation more than worship.)The book of Psalms is full of these. But one in particular talks about how "You don't want sacrifices, or I'd give them." No, instead , He wants a "Contrite heart." And some of these are super repentant, while others are celebration. But they all help us set our sights on the right things.
Next will be fairly common, just not as common. That is, speaking in tongues. Not all Christians do that thing, but plenty from all denominations who actually believe that it's how you know you're saved. But unlike singing, this one comes with requirements and stipulations. The apostle Paul made it very clear. The touch of the Holy Spirit is a wonderful thing. But at least two people have to hear the same foreign language, so that no one is deceived. I've heard of missionaries that were suddenly able to understand languges, and that saved their lives. But you have to be careful.
And lastly, I'd like to talk about something you might not even think is worship. Those times when we eat, all together, as a big group. For a lot of churches, it's just an obvious thing to do. But in reality, it's the best way to worship, whenever possible. One of the last things Jesus said was "take, eat. " Which some of us do weekly, breaking bread for potlucks, or communion. And even if you don't exactly do that, It's important to give thanks and enjoy all we receive. Because that's what and how He made the universe to be! Even small meals with your family are a chance to appreciate and honor our God and King. Which is, I think, the heart of worshipping.
I hope that blessed you. If so, please consider buying me a cup of coffee, to keep me going.
