A Whole Lot of Nothing
The Bible talks about creation in six days. But what if it took much less? After all, God can do anything. Now, this isn't canon as such. That said, it's a belief held by many christians. And in order to learn, I've done some research, which means you don't have to. Still, if you're as curious as me, put on your thinking caps, and let's get into it!
Saint Augustine came up with Ex Nihilo (From Nothing) in the 4th century A.D. So, before we got the Bible that Martin Luther reformed, and before many current ideas.
It goes like this: In the first moment, God said something which basically meant, "let there be everything that ever will be." And that command resonates in and through all of what was, is, and will be. Including events that happen. He said one thing, and from that, creation keeps unfolding.
Now, a whole lot of Christianshold firm that everything the Bible says had to happen exactly how it says. No exceptions, no questions. Which is entirely valid. Second, though, it means they don't askpointless questions. He said it. He meant it. End of Discussion.
On the other hand, many feel strongly that language has limits, and they admit that, as humans, we struggle to grasp the divine. As such, they say that when Moses wrote Genisis, he struggled. So he used the best wording he had, hundreds of years later. So we should interpret that with care, and without limiting the Allmighty.
Frankly, whichever way you look at it, the handiwork of the Father is captivating. And we may never find out, until we know as we are known. But it's healthy to contemplate, and it's important to find new ways to be amazed by grace.
I hope that blessed you. If so, please consider buying me a cup of coffee, to keep me going.
