A Total God Send

We say that a lot. And we probably take the Lord’s name for granted, if not in vain. And even with stuff like lazer sword-space battles, we talk about Messiah figures. But what does that actually mean? And if we don’t know, we probably shouldn’t say it. However, Jesus is the reason for this season, leading me to do the research, so you don’t have to. So, go ahead and bundle up, and let’s get into it!

First off. In Hebrew the word was masiah. (pron. meshyack.) This morphed through Greek and Latin, until our English, messiah. In every version, though, it meant the same thing. That is to say, the anointed one. And we tend to forget, the annointng was a symbol of being chosen by God. So,basically, it means “The Chosen one.”

And that’s actually super important. It could mean someone chosen by God, to do anything. For example, in Torah, Cyrus the Persian was called a messiah in Isaiah. And Samuel spoke of David as messiah. Usually, the term refers to one who restores the peace of God’s people.

There have been several through the ages. Another example is Alexander the great, and people have even suggested that President Donald Trump may be a messiah of sorts. But with all their great deeds and restoration, there is only one who is King of Kings.

If you look it up, Jesus was actually promised since the very second chapter, which means He was the plan from the beginning. And that’s where the title of Christ, or Greek, Kherin also means anointed. He was crowned, our suffering servant, paid our debts before an epic comeback, And is our once and future king.

I hope that blessed you. If so, please consider buying me a cup of coffee, to keep me going.
