5 Staple Supplies
You may have heard that the three most basic tools are a knife, some kind of lighter, and rope. Which will get you through most situations. But in the case of a real disaster, you might want more. Luckily, I've researched exactly that, so you don't have to. Just some stuff to keep you comfy when it hits the fan. So brace yourselves, and let's get into it!
1. Paper Maps
If a crisis happens, hopefully you'll be stuck at home. But what if you're at the office, or you wanna leave your house? It's very common for the power to go out, and cell phones are unreliable at the best of times. None of that's a problem though, if you have paper maps. Store important ones in places you frequent, or just keep them in the car where you are. Either way, these can guide you out of tight spots, to wherever you'd rather be.
2. Flashlights
So, you have a map, and a plan. But again, the power's out. And it's night at least half the time. Not to worry though. You remembered flashlights! Yes, more than one. The batteries might go out in one, or some other problem. But if you have at least one spare, you should be okay. You might also share with others in your group. And while we're talking battery operated stuff, a radio might also come in handy.
3. Extended Matches
These ain't your gradaddy's matches. Sold by Diamond (Not a sponsor!) and sometimes called Candle Lighters, these bad boys are heavier than your garden-variety strike anywhere type, which means they're more durable, and won't go out so easy. The longer handle also means you won't get burnt. Remember how fire lighters are essential tools? Well, these are those, on steroids.
4. Extra Blankets
Much like flashlights, you can never have too many blankets. At the very least, wear a few at once. But more probably, your whole group can stay warm. And if there's extra, you can hang them over windows to save money on heat. And as a last ditch thing, you can wrap pipes or plants to keep them from freezing. Even pets like to stay warm. Just lotsa uses.
5. Emergency Rations
This one might seem obvious, but i'm gonna talk about it anyway. Of course you need food, but there's probably stuff you didnt think about. Like, it's a good idea to have stuff you don't mind eating cold. It's good to have matches, but starting a fire may not always be safe. And depending on what's happening, you might want to stay away from good smelling stuff, like garlic or spices, so as not to get attacked by wandering gangs over food. Now, this won't be every time, but you should be ready, just in case. What will happen in every disaster, though, is stress and exhaustion. Which means it makes sense to have comfort food, even just a box of cookies, as a pick-me-up. And hopefully, these make your surviving just a bit easier.
I hope that blessed you. If so, please consider buying me a cup of coffee, to keep me going.
Thanks!
