Feel Good Family Edition

So, anyone who’s been reading my work consistently knows by now, I’m a bit of a geek. Comic books, video games, movies, sign me up! But sometimes, it’s just good to sit back in my fuzzy socks with a cup of Earl Grey tea, and binge watch a show that feels like a warm hug. So these are a few options to let you do just that. Once again, I’ve done all this research so you don’t have to. It’s still not sponsored, just fun. So, with all that being said, let’s get into it!

1: Everwood

For our purposes, the name of this show is also the name of a fictional small town in Colorado. I believe the term “One horse town” has been used? Anyway, the story revolves around a big city surgeon, who’s wife unexpectedly dies. Filled with grief at her passing, he moves back to his childhood home where he decides to start doing good. Bringing his children to Everwood, he opens a free clinic, because he’s rich. This leads to lots of episodes. But to make things interesting, his boyhood rival stayed and became a doctor. Will our hero’s heart ever heal? Are his kids okay? Does the small town doc know best? Tune in and find out! 10 of 10.

2: The Ghost and Mrs. Muir

If you see a theme emerging, there might just be one. Filmed in the 60’s, and based off a book from the 1800’s, this story is about Mrs. Muir, a recently widowed writer. She moves to a quaint New England town with her two children. She plans to finish her next novel, but can’t find a place to live. Finally, she finds the beautiful Gull Cottage. It’s still vacant because everyone says it’s haunted. But surely that’s just local superstition. Until she meets The Captain. He’s handsome, and charming, and great with kids. The only catch? He’s been dead for 100 years. Might be hard to find, but worth a watch. Only one season though, so 8 of 10.

3: Touched by an Angel

Some of you might remember this show. Then again, maybe not? In any case, it’s super cozy. Not to be confused with the Dexter episode of the same name, this show revolves around the cases worked by a group of angels, primarily Monica. These are difficult moments in people’s lives, and Monica can guide them with examples of their character, shown with memories, and encouragement from God’s word. While usually sound, sometimes they stray from truth, so be warned. All in all, though, while definitely not religious, it’s a fun watch. 7 of 10.

4: Good Morning, Miss Bliss!

Once upon a time, there was a show about a boy in highschool.Saved by the Bell was fairly important, as this show taught a lot of people a lot of things. But did you know, there was another show before that? Well, this is that show. Rather than Bayside, Miss Carrie Bliss taught in Indianapolis, Indiana. It only lasted one season, but while she could, she helped students like Zach and Screech navigate puberty. It might not be for everyone, but if you like it, you probably really like it. Still, I’m giving this one 8 of 10. Enjoy!

5: Julia

Remember how we had a theme going for a minute back there? Well, it’s back, baby! Julia is a widow moving to a new town. But this one’s special. She’s black, with one kid instead of two. Especially during the 60’s, this meant her struggle was pretty intense. This show talked about that stuff, without getting dark or political. Instead, it’s an encouraging and comforting story of strength. Plus, her little boy Cory fills it with adorable antics. This one is back up at the top. 10 of 10!

I hope that blessed you. If so, please consider buying me a cup of coffee, to keep me going.
