5 Must-See Mysteries

Welcome back, beautiful people! Here to start off another week of good things, I thought I'd share a personal favorite: Cozy Mysteries! Sure, there's a lot of death and murder, but the real fun of these are the struggles and smiles that come from the cast of kooky charachters. Not unlike life, just a bit more comfortable. Now, this is a short list. But even so, it's not sponsored. I've just done a bit of research, so you dont have to. And if that sounds good, let's get into it!

1. Death in Paradise

Who says emperialism was a bad thing? Actually, don't answer that. But on this show, it's worked out okay. It's set in sunny San Marie, really the main character, a british territorial island. Every few seasons, it welcomes a new chief inspector. They have to work through issues, both from old England- and some new tropical troubles-while also solving mystries. Usually murder. To help them settle in, there's Police superintendant Selwin Patterson, and the local bar (think, island cheer's) run by Catherine D'Montaigne. It's available on Acorn, BBC iPlayer, DVD, or Kanopy

2. Francesca Quinn,P.I.

This one-off movie (So Far.) might be the only "Strictly Professional" story I've ever seen. Sure, the murdered victim was Franky's fiance. And the lead police dectective used to date her. But aside from the heavy romantic tension, the repeated refrain is, "We're just coworkers." Still, while that does complicate matters, everyone keeps a clear enough head to solve the case. And sort out themselves too. A lot of fun, if high drama. It's available on Amazon, Hallmark, and DVD. And right now, YouTube.

3. Queens of Mystery

I love this show! It's way different from anything else out there, especially that last one. While so many shows focus on the relationships and romances as backstory for the detectives, this one has a recently retired policewoman going into buisiness with her spinster aunts to start a detective agency. Men and murders may come and go, but these ladies always have each other. Also, there's a long running personal mystery they have to solve. Available on Acorn, BBC iPlayer, and DVD.

4. Shakespeare and Hathaway

Frank Hathaway, a retired Detective Inspector gone private eye meets Luella Shakespeare, an antique dealer/decorator with an eye for detail when she hires him to look into the fiance she met online. He turns out to be a con-man, but she goes ahead with the wedding. When he's murdered, though, she has to work with Frank to clear her name. And from here, they find an unlikely crime-solving partnership. Episodes are available on BritBox, Acorn, or DVD.

5. Shadow Island Mysteries

In the interest of balanced reporting, I've talked about a good few platonic series, so now, I'll share another romantic one. In a fictional New England town, Claire offers to arrange her best friend's wedding on a little known private island. Things get heated and passions flare, before the groom suddenly goes missing! Fortunately, along with the local law enforcement, Claire is a dab hand at sleuthing. She'll figure this out in no time! Available on Pluto, Hallmark, and DVD.

I hope that blessed you. If so, please consider buying a subscription.
