5 More Mighty-Fine Movies

It's Monday, and you know what that means! But in case you don't, I'm sending out yet another list of wholesome entertainment options. Well, movies. Maybe one show? We'll figure that out along the way. Now these dont have a central theme unless you count exitement. And as usual, I don't have a sponsor. I just did the research, so you don't have to. So with that, strap on your helmet, and let's get into it!

1. The Portable Door

A product of the Jim Henson company, this movie follows it's own rules. Which is to say, time and space are plot devices to play with. Anyway, in this world, a young inventor is given a job at a secretive firm. There, he discovers a powerful device and a plot to control the world, as well as falling in love. It's filled with magic and mystery, and I cant reccomend it any higher!

2. To Catch a Spy

You might think you've seen Hallmark movies. And you probably have. But this one is different. Like, a safe, comfortable different. Nothing edgy or vulgar. Still, instead of another romantic mystery in Nantucket at Christmas, This one is set in Malta, filled with espionage and dangerous chase scenes. And nobody falls in love. It's just awesome.

3. Three Pines

I knew it! This one's a show. Okay, so there's a standalone movie, but I haven't seen it yet. Stay tuned! Anyhow, this one is currently available on Prime, or DVD if you don't feel like subscribing to stuff. It's about detective superintendant Armand Gamache, and the mysteries he solves. Of course, just as entertaining are his dealings with the local residents. If you're expecting cozy, these are a little dark. Still,a great night in, with cocoa or whatever you like.

4. Synchronicity

This one might need to be watched twice. A second run, of sorts. See, the story is about a time tavel machine that opens a wormhole. But if a person goes through to change the past, it just splits off, which results in two versions of that person. But going back to fix that (the second run) makes stuff really complicated. There is mild language and implied sex, but for most readers, it's a fun movie.

5. The Areonauts

Inspired by true events, I'm surprised this one isn't better known. It's the story of a pilot working with a scientist (naturalist?) to understand weather formation in the upper atmosphere. It takes place in the 1800's, and so uses a hot air balloon. They're caught off gaurd by the storms and danger they encounter, but also by the friendship they develop. These events may also have inspired Around the World in 80 Days. A lot of it is told in flashbacks though, in case you mind those. Still, a great adventure for the whole family!

I hope that blessed you. If so, please consider buying a subscription.
